NYRRSC FEATURE.
The North Yorkshire Road Racing Supporters club has been backing riders from the area for almost 25 years, helping out competitors from club level to Grand Prix racing .In 2009 there is again a large spread of talent across different classes and levels. So if you fancy catching a North Yorkshire Road Racing Supporters Club backed rider in action before the end of the season where do you go? Check out the guide below to find out.
The most popular place for NYRRSC riders in 2009 is the fast growing Thundersport GB Championship, which is now firmly placed between Club level and BSB, although it must be said that it does boast a bigger variety of machinery than the UK's blue ribbond series. In the GP3 (or GP125 if you prefer ) class alone there are four of the Club's riders: Jamie Ferguson,Gavin Lupton,Richard Ferguson and John Hawkes.
In the Thundersport 500 class, which is full of Honda CB500s,Jonathon Harrison has been sensational, turning an early season disadvantage into a strong Championship lead as the series heads into its last three events. Richard Harrison is out in the highly competitive GP1 class and Rob Brown has been improving all year in the Superstock 600 class.
The remaining Thundersport rounds are:
Brands Hatch....Sunday August 30th, Monday August 31st
Anglesey.........Saturday September 12th,Sunday September 13th
Rockingham.....Saturday October 17th,Sunday October 18th
The B.S.B. paddock was the high profile venue for four of the Club's racers, but things certainly haven't gone to plan. In the Supersport category Dan Linfoot has dazzled throughout the season but a big crash in qualifying at Snetterton put him out of action for a number of rounds. He returned at Brands Hatch, sadly failing to finish, but looks set to be on the pace at the remaining rounds. Dennis Hobbs, who had to sit out practically all of last season due to injury, got back to podium form at the Oulton second round, but then another Thruxton crash has led to another injury lay off. Dennis is aiming to return at the Croft round.
Also hoping to be on the grid at Croft is Joe Ackroyd, whose second season in the Superstock 600 class has been plagued by crash and funding issues. ( Those two problems often go hand in hand.) Joe will be aiming to repeat his strong showing at his home round last year. Finally, schoolboy Josh Harland was making good progress in the 125 Championship when a big crash at Knockhill left him with a badly broken leg. Josh is hoping to be back at the Oulton Park finale.
The remaining British Superbike Rounds are:
Cadwell Park......Monday August 31st
Croft.................Sunday September 13th
Silverstone.........Sunday September 27th
Oulton Park......Saturday October 10th, Sunday October 11th
At the real grass roots level of racing, the Auto 66 Club have been switching between Cadwell Park and the somewhat less glamorous Elvington. After making her racing debut on a Honda RS 125 at the start of this season, the ever improving Sarah Boyes now heads the club's 125 Championship. As the shops start thinking about putting up Christmas decorations, the Auto 66 Club will host a two day finale at Cadwell Park on October 24th and 25th,which will be just about the last chance for the fans to catch some live racing action this year. Expect Sarah to be joined by Richard and Jamie Ferguson at this event.
The remaining Auto 66 rounds are:
Elvington.............Sunday September 6th
Elvington.............Sunday October 14th
Cadwell Park.......Saturday October 24th, Sunday October 25th
( The North East Motorcycle Road Racing Club in which Rob Brown, Jamie Ferguson and Richard Ferguson have competed with much success have had to cancel their scheduled October 10th and 11th meeting at East Fortune. Despite continued efforts and negotiations by the club the event looks unlikely to be reinstated.)
